What are the details of Packet Pick Up?

Packet Pick Up:  Packet Pick Up (PPU) will be Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Conway Regional Health and Fitness Center gymnasium from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM.  Race Day PPU will also be available at the McGee Center from 6:00 AM until 7:45 AM.  IF YOU ARRIVE LATER THAN 7:45 AM YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET YOUR BIB!  The race will begin promptly at 8:00 AM.

Can I have my friend pick up my bib for me?  You can have a friend pick up your bib for you.  Please fill out this form and send it with your friend ALONG WITH A COPY OF YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE.  Your friend must also show their driver’s license.

RELAY TEAMS:  Only one team member is needed to pick up the bibs and shirts.  You may pick up your registered teammate’s bib and shirt without any problem.  If you are planning on someone other than your teammate picking up your bib and shirt, please fill out this form and send it with your friend ALONG WITH A COPY OF YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE.  Your friend must also show their driver’s license.

Do you allow walkers?  Yes, walkers are welcome!  We also have awards for walkers, which is why it is important to register correctly.  If you intend to run ANY part of the course, you need to register as a runner.  Even if you plan to walk more than you run, register as a runner!  If you plan to walk every step of the race, then register as a walker.  Basically, it is ok for runners to walk, but not for walkers to run.  Many participants walk this race competitively.

Do you allow wheelchair participants?  Yes, we welcome wheelchair athletes!  Wheelchair participants will line up in the front of the line on race day, and will be given a 5 minute (minimum) start ahead of the gun start.  An award is given to the top wheelchair finisher.  To be eligible for the wheelchair award, you must participate in a racing wheelchair, rather than hand cycle.  Hand cycles are allowed but will not be eligible for the award.

What type of shirts are we getting and what size should I order? The Half Marathon participants will get long sleeve tech shirts.  These are unisex sizes, so ladies would be wise to order a size smaller than you normally wear.  Relay participants will get a long sleeve cotton shirt, which run true to size.

Can I push a stroller?  Strollers are not allowed in the Half Marathon or the Relay.

Can I run with my dog on race day?  No, dogs are not allowed on the course.

Will you have pace groups available?  Yes, we have an awesome group of pacers who can help you stay on track and encourage you along the way!  The start line will be made up of corrals marked with paces and projected finish times.  Please line up in the corral that best represents what you can realistically run/walk on race day.  The fastest runners will be in the front, walkers will be in the back.

Is there a time limit for the race?  The course will officially close four hours from the beginning of the race.  If you require more than four hours to complete the course, please be advised that you will have to finish without the support of the aid stations and traffic control, and you may not get an official time.  HOWEVER, if you finish the race after the 4 hours, you will still get a medal!!

Are headphones allowed during the race?  Use of headphones during the race is discouraged, as you will be surrounded by thousands of other participants, and in some cases, active traffic on roadways.  If you absolutely insist on wearing headphones, please wear them in only one ear so that you can be more aware of your surroundings.  Runners who use headphones during the race do so at their own risk!  Safety is our number one concern.

Do we get finisher’s medals?  Absolutely!  EVERY finisher in the Half Marathon, and both relay partners in the Relay get a medal.

I would like to register as a VIP.  How do I do that and what does it entail? VIP’s get front of line service at Packet Pick Up, reserved parking near the McGee Center, access to the VIP tent on race day, which includes free massage, special food, and a heated space to hang out after the race!  You can become a VIP two different ways:

I am injured/cannot attend.  Can I get a refund or defer my registration to next year?  We do not issue refunds or deferrals. If you cannot attend, your registration fee will be considered to be a donation to Soaring Wings Ranch.

Can I transfer my registration to another person?  Race registrations are non-transferrable.

Can I switch my registration from the Half to the Relay?  Race registrations may not be switched between the Half and the Relay, or from the Relay to the Half.

Can I register as a Half Marathon participant, AND as part of a Relay team No, please register for either the Half Marathon OR the Relay.

I think I may have entered incorrect information on my registration/I am not sure if my registration went through, can you check for me?  Please use this link to see if you are registered.  If you see something in error, please contact the race director at [email protected].

I can’t find my confirmation email.  Can you send me another one?

  • First, check in your spam/junk mail folder.  If you find it, move us to your allowed senders list.
  • If you don’t find it there, please use this link to request another one.  If you think you entered an incorrect email address, please contact the Race Director at [email protected] so that you will get important race related information.

How many spots are there in the Soaring Wings Half Marathon? How many in the Relay?  Registration will close at 2,000 participants in the Half Marathon, and 100 teams (200 participants) in the Relay.

Do you think the races will sell out?  When do you think they will sell out?  In the past, the Half has sold out.  The relay has not sold out, but we have seen growth every year.  Online registration will close at midnight on Friday, October 17.

What are the age limits?

Half Marathon:  Participants must be 13 years old to participate by themselves.  Children who are 10 to 12 years old may participate with a registered adult who will be with them the entire time.  If you have a child who is 10 -12 years old who plans to run with an adult, please notify the Race Director so that you can complete a form letting us know who will be accompanying the child.

Relay:  Participants must be at least 10 years old to participate by themselves.  Children 9 years and younger must be accompanied by a registered adult who stays with them the entire time.    If you have a child who is 9 years old or younger who plans to run with an adult, please notify the Race Director so that you can complete a form letting us know who will be accompanying the child.

The Race Committee reserves the right to request proof of age for any registrant.

Do you have an event for kids?  There is a Kids Run for Kids fun run and Half Marathon available for children 2 years to 12 years of age.  Please see the Kids Run for Kids page for more information on this option for kids.

Is the race timed?  Yes, the race is chipped timed and gun timed.  You will receive a timing chip along with your bib at packet pick up that you need to attach to your shoe.  This will record your actual start and finish time when you run over electronic mats that activate your chip.  Gun time will also be used as backup.  This is the time from the official start of the race (when the gun fires) to when you finish the race.  Both times will be available to you after the race.   If you do not wear your chip, you will not have an official race time, and will not be listed as a finisher in the race.

Do I have to return my timing chip after the race?  No, our chips are disposable.  You will not be penalized or charged for not returning your chip.  You may throw it away or keep it.

What happens if it rains or storms the day of the race?  Will the race be cancelled?  The race will go on regardless of rain.  Only in the event that weather conditions present an imminent danger to participants will the race be delayed or cancelled (for example ice, lightening, or tornado threat).

If the race gets cancelled, will I get a refund?  In the very rare occasion that the race is cancelled, refunds or deferrals will not be given.   Your race registration fee would be donated to Soaring Wings Ranch.
